North House Lake
Warren Griffiths had one of the new North House stockies (stocked in October 2021) last Sunday night. Please let us know if you catch any of the stockies as it's great to monitor their growth and progress.
One of the 2017 stockies was also caught on Saturday at 18lb.
North House Work Party
Improvements as advised by the Angling Trust were carried out to the otter fence and gate at North House Lake on Saturday. Chicken wire has been added to the older section of fence as the openings in the wire although deemed a suitable size way back when the fence was installed are now considered too big. We've added sheet metal to the gate and changed the lock and latch configuration there is now a rod on the inside which can be pushed to release the latch and the lock has been moved higher up and is now easier to lock and unlock.. THE BLACK PADLOCK IS THE MEMBERS LOCK. Thanks go to Mark Brooks, David Murdoch, Bob Burdiak, Neville Hunt, Barry Stevenson, Fergal O'Kane, Roger Bland, Des Saunders and Neil Cox for their help.
Beckerings Reservoir
This venue is currently closed for maintenance and we will re-open as soon as we can hopefully by next weekend. Just before the temporary closure during the spell of nice weather bailiff Mark had a couple of sessions and during the first had a 27lb 3oz mirror off the bottom and then the
next day a 16lb Common off the top.
Luton AC Coaching Team
Four of Luton Angling Clubs’ coaches (Dennis Hunt, Mark Brooks, Richard Gibbs and Roger Baker) had a very different day today assisting the Angling Trust VBS Service and the Environment Agency deliver a educational course on fishing and angling law to 18 Members of the Hertfordshire Constabulary. The Officers both men and women came from across the Hertfordshire rural crime teams.
The course was hosted at Westbrook Mere, the HQ of Boxmoor Angling Society and our role was to offer some ‘hands on’ fishing experience to the attendees, reinforcing the learning in the classroom.
All those attending said they learnt a lot about angling and all those having a go caught plenty of roach. All the Officers really enjoyed the course and thought the ‘hands on’ session reinforced the learning.
The Coaching Team also made some great contacts, and we understand it's hoped to deliver a similar course in Bedfordshire soon.
The first Luton AC hosted Let's Fish event of 2022 will be held on the Grand Union Canal at Three Locks on 9th April 2022. Learn to fish with our team of professionally qualified and licensed angling coaches. All bait, equipment, permits and licence are provided. All you need to do is book in and turn up on time on the day. Places are limited on these events and pre-booking is essential. More info on this and other Let's fish events can be found on the Canal and River Trust website.
Wednesday Match Group Report
Wednesday 30th March at Alders Farm
On Wednesday 13 Members of the Wednesday group met at Alders farm to fish Ash Lake, as we were having a day out on one of our local commercial fisheries for a change.
The weather had taken a turn for the worse and after last weeks beautiful warm sunshine we were faced with a dull and dampish morning following a cold night. There was little on no wind to start, and the lake was very calm with hardly a ripple on the surface when we started.
However, as the day progressed the wind picked up and turned northerly giving the day a very cold feel, increasing the ripple.
The anglers fished a variety of methods, feeder, waggler and pole.
The day started slowly but on form Richard Darbon fishing a method feeder was the exception as he lost a fish first cast and had another soon after. Maggot and pellet proved the dominant bait for most.
Most of the field were catching after 30 to 40 minutes but after a short golden spell the wind got up and turned and the lake turned very dour with bites at a premium.
After this slack spell the fishing started to pick up again, however Richard Gibbs fishing a pole waited until 1-30 before getting his first fish of the day.
For Alders Farm the fishing was slow but some reasonable weights were put on the scales at the end of the day, and all those attending enjoyed the visit.
Fortunately, this week we managed to pack away and complete the weigh in before the rain started!
Many thanks to all who helped organising the draw and assisting with the weigh in.
