Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area - Centenary Edition 10th April 2022

Luton Angling Club is 100 years old!

Luton Angling club was formed on 10th April 1922 when a group of local businessmen and professional people formed the society.  The club has been run entirely by volunteers over the 100 year period and credit goes to all those who are currently and previously have been involved with the club over the years. Some of them sadly are no longer with us however their dedication and contribution to the club will never be forgotten. If you have any stories, pictures, news articles or old club memorabilia please share with us on our facebook page.

We have also created a limited edition enamel badge to commemorate our centenary and these will be available via the club website at www.lutonanglingclub.co.uk/100years

Coaching Update
Saturday 9th April saw Luton AC's first lets fish event of the year take place at Three Locks on the Grand Union Canal. The event was fully booked and although the fishing was slow and catches were few and far between the weather was nice and everyone that came along really enjoyed themselves. Thanks to coaches Mark Brooks, Bob Burdiak, Roger Baker and also Vice Chairman/ Secretary Gary Scott who assisted with welcoming and registering the participants.

A nice article was written recently by the mum of one of the Luton Juniors - Hugo Hall. This is testament to the hard work and dedication of all the Let's Fish Coaches. The article can be found on the Canal and River Trust website. See the article here

Wednesday Match Group Report - 6th April 2022
Grand Union Canal - The Globe
This week 16 members of the Wednesday group including some first timers met at The Globe for our weekly match.
The weather had turned slightly warmer since the weekend, but Wednesday started a dull and dampish morning with a gusting breeze. The day was interspersed with sunshine and heavy showers the breeze stiffening and turning very gusty as the day wore on veering in direction.
The canal was holding good colour although the water temperatures are still very low after the recent cold nights, the fish feeling extremely cold.
The heavy gusts made fishing a pole very challenging and fishing over 11 Metres was extremely difficult at and holding the pole was difficult, so anglers fished a variety of methods including feeder.
The larger gusts mead the fishing challenging and several lost hooked fish.
Chris Howard fished a pole Punch on the peg nearest the Pub to take 12lb 8oz of mainly Bream, losing another couple of fish in the wind. Dudley Frankland chose to fish a small feeder with dead reds for bait to weigh 11lb 8oz. Third placed Ash Bunnage fished a pole and weighed in 8lb, using double pinkie, and he also dropped a couple of fish in the wind. Colin MacBeth fished punch on a pole to take 7lb 4oz 8drm unfortunately knocking a real lump of a bream off with the landing net in the wind.
Despite the challenging day all those attending enjoyed the fishing and there were no dry nets.
Many thanks to all who helped organising the draw and assisting with the weigh in this week.
