Match Report 29th March 2023 (Away Venue) Water End Fishery, Clophill
On a better than forecast morning 10 anglers gathered at Water End Fishery this week. It was great to see Richard Gibbs back on the bank with us after a long period away recovering from a back operation.
The morning was bright, and the day warmer than of late with the temperature starting at 9C with little wind to start. Rising further during the day. As the whistle went at 10 right on queue the rain appeared and had us reaching for umbrellas, but although threatening a few times we only had a couple of showers for the rest of the day. The big problem in the middle of the day was a heavy gusting wind which that made holding long poles difficult.
Steve Lathwell had a fish over soon after the off on red maggot which seemed to be the best bait today, and then his swim went quiet, so he fished towards the middle and continued to catch, switching lines to keep fish coming ending with 38lb 8oz.
Dennis Hunt started very slowly, also fishing red maggot, not having even a twitch on the float for an hour and a half, but as the day warmed the carp suddenly switched on and began to feed over towards the far bank. Dennis ended with 31lb 7oz. Both Steve and Dennis lost fish through the day.
Sean Leatherland opted to fish pellet and again had a very slow start but started to take fish as the day warmed finishing with 14lb 12oz. It was good to be back on the bank with most catching again this week after a very lean march!
Brian Shaw had the biggest ‘stick fish’ of the day which if it counted would have added considerably to his weight!
