South Lagoon - Wyboston
Wieslaw Lewandowski and his 16 year old son Simon fished for Tench on the South Lagoon. They caught a lot of bream all over 5lb, but just before midnight the alarm sounded "a stronger note" and after a fight using his 1.75lb barbel rod with an EOS 10000 with fairly light fishing line and maggot and corn as hookbait, Simon had a Common carp weighing just over 31lb in the landing net. It's Simon's first ever carp and has set his PB rather high, so it might take some time for him to beat it, but he's going to try!! Wieslaw also hooked and landed an 18lb 7oz Pike. The South Lagoon is open to both club members and can also be fished by non members on a day or night ticket available from the bailiffs on the bank.

Beckerings Reservoir
Alison McNeil usually fishes the Rivers but with the close season in force tried Beckerings for the first time and had this Ide at 3lb 6oz. These Ide really are growing on well as they were only a few inches long when they were stocked.

All fish were taken using the usual madbaits. He saw 8 fish over 20lb come out from Friday to Sunday lunchtime the biggest 28lb and several other smaller fish. He also captured a fantastic shot of the sunrise over the reservoir

Amer's Angle - Beckerings Slider Float Fishing Video
Slider float fishing is one of the arts of float fishing. It's a method that gets anglers frustrated when perfecting the set-up, plumbing up and feeding at range. in the 4th episode of Amer's Angle which was filmed at Beckerings Reservoir, Amer shows you how simple a method it is when all the fore-mentioned are put into practice. It is an exciting float fishing session which threw up at least one surprise!
Check it out on Youtube as it is well worth a watch. https://youtu.be/fDLjn1RWJ3E

Coaching Session, Town South Sunday 9th April
Today (Sunday 9th April) our Luton Coaches ran a follow-on coaching session for our fast-improving Junior(Kingfisher) anglers using the Grand Union Canal at Town South in Leighton Buzzard as our venue.
A good number of our young anglers were away for the Easter holidays, but the lads that came really enjoyed themselves and all caught fish. We even had a newbie, it was Daniels first time out with us, he came with his friend and enjoyed himself so much he wants to join the Club and become a regular attendee.
Alfie, who hadn’t been out for a little while, was practicing fishing bread punch over liquidised bread feed and ended up with 4lb 13oz at the end of the three hours.
Louis was also fishing punch and trying pinkie to bag a nice mixed net, and our least experienced anglers were practising using pinkies over a little groundbait and caught well.
We have great hopes for these lads when they represent Luton Angling Club in Shropshire later in the year.
Well done, all our Kingfishers!

Match Report 5th April Three Locks Lower Grand Union Canal
On a bright but chilly Wednesday morning we had a great turnout with 18 anglers turning up to fish the Canal at Three Locks. The Canal water was holding good colour after the recent rain and the water temp started at 10.1C rising to 10.8C as the day wore on.
The day warmed to 10C, with and gentle breeze blowing along the canal giving a ripple at times, and we were lucky with the rain again as the drizzle only started as we walked back to our cars along the towpath after we had all packed our kit away.
Most anglers started brightly catching for the first hour and then the bites vanished as the first boat, a CRT workboat passed, causing little disturbance. We had a few boats today but only one angler Dennis Hunt on peg 11 was ‘Double Boated’.
Most anglers had a fallow period in the middle of the day, bites returning for some in the last hour.
Our winner this week was Chris Howard who had a great day, drawing peg 6 which put him opposite some bushes on the kink. He started off on punch at 7.5 metres and caught steadily taking skimmers and bream on 5mm bread punch before going over to the bushes at 13 metres with worm and caster, taking a couple of large bream, skimmers, and a very large Perch. By about 2 o'clock, everyone was struggling for a bites and after this Chris only managed a single Ruffe, He weighed in 20lb 9oz for his first place.
Sean Leatherland was second taking bream and skimmers at 11 Metres, his hookbait was red maggot fished over groundbait for 8lb 14oz. Dennis Hunt took third this week, taking two bream early on 5mm punch over toasted crumb, was then biteless for three hours. He then decided to feed some chopped worm over groundbait using worm on the hook and finished taking a further two skimmers and a bream in 18 ins of water at 14.5 Metres just off the far bank for 6lb 4oz. Colin Macbeth finished fourth with 4lb 10oz.

Canal and River Trust Celebration of Young People and Angling - September 2023
The Bookings for the Canal and River Trust Celebration to be held in September opened on Friday 1st April and we have 5 young Luton Anglers out of the 70 booked to date that can’t wait to go, and we are sure others will want to join them in our Luton Teams.
Some had the experience of competing last year and can’t wait to go back again for others it will be their first time, but we are sure they will enjoy themselves. We have a full summer of Lets Fish and follow on coaching to come, and it’s great to see the Louis and the other lads getting out for some practice on their own.
We look forward to having a successful summer, and our young anglers doing well at the celebrations in September.
If anyone wants to join in, please contact the Club to let us know. Below is a link to the Canal and River Trust Celebration page.
