Wednesday Match Report 10th April 2024
Beckerings Reservoir
Many of the Wednesday group had been looking forward to our weekly Wednesday match this week, which was held at Beckerings. 21 anglers met in the car park on what was initially a fine clear morning with a gentle breeze. However, this was not to last, and before long, a strong gusting wind appeared, along with some nasty rain squalls. The wind was blowing off the far bank towards the gate bank, and for those pegged on this side, the wind, waves, and rain directly in our faces made it a challenging experience! There was no doubt that the wild day and difficult conditions contributed to lower than expected catches with some very good anglers recording low weights or worse still DNW.
Winner on the day was Jim Tookey, who fished two lines with the feeder one long at 48 Metres and another short at 27 Metres. Jim was fishing groundbait feeder with maggot hookbait. He reported that all his 3 Bream come from the longer line and he had to play about with the presentation to tempt bites, ending with 19lb 5oz.
Second was venue expert and Beckerings bailiff Colin Holmes he said after being pegged on the gate bank, he would have liked to have had wind behind him, but it is what it is! Colin was fishing with 12 wraps (35 / 36 Metres) He started with a 36g feeder but then then went for a less weight at 28g but bigger physical size. His bait was Ringers 6mm wafters in orange or yellow pushed on a twisted wire bayonet spike on the hook loop. His method mix was 2mm ringers and 2mm F1 pellets mixed and soaked. Colin took 2 bream about 7lb each and 3 skimmers for 15lb 15oz.
Steve Lathwell fished the tip all day, taking odd skimmers, and decided to change his groundbait feeder setup to a window feeder with a 16 hook and dead reds and finally hooked a 7lb 10 bream, giving him 9lb 7oz
Dennis Hunt fished the tip with a groundbait feeder and a bunch of red maggot on the hook at 25 Metres to take a 7lb 6oz Bream and a skimmer but lost an unseen fish to a particularly violent take that tried to tow his rod in at one point. Dennis ended with 8lb 1oz, rueing what might have been…
Terry Vickers took a very nice Tench on the float at about 3 Metres off the platform and here were some very nice roach and Ide taken in the backup weights but not a lot of pictures this week due to adverse weather conditions!
Dudley Frankland's 2lb 11oz weight included a nice Roach of 1lb 11oz which he was delighted with.
A big thank you to Mark Sessions and the Beckerings Bailiff team for making us so welcome at the venue

Let’s Fish’ Town South Thursday 11 April 2024
The Luton Club coaching team have had a busy time this week, as we delivered our second successful CRT ‘Lets Fish’ event of the week sponsored by the Whitbread community Fund on Thursday, using the Grand Union Canal in Leighton Buzzard.
Being Easter half term, there were plenty of people of all ages eager to give angling a go, and all the events have been fully booked.
All the coaches delivering the sessions, and those who came to try angling enjoyed the experiences and lots of fish were landed. This has helped generate lots of interest in joining the Club as a Junior and learning more.
To help us capture data of those eager to access our follow on activities we launched our latest initiative, developed by Dave Murdoch our Club IT specialist and Membership Secretary with input from the Coaches, a QR code sheet which is linked to a data capture page which parents can complete.
This enables those attending to register to be sent further details of our coaching programs, and perhaps join our Kingfishers, and give us some feedback on our session delivery . This has already been a great success, generating lots of interest and some new Kingfisher members already. Some of the comments received are below:
Olivia, Fraser, and Ted
Fraser and Ted had a great session with Mark and Adrian, they were patient, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The boys enjoyed a bit of healthy competition with them.
Nicola and Ben
Coaches were very friendly and explained everything very well to the right level. They boys felt very comfortable around them. Thank you for giving up your time to do these events. The boys came away wanting more!
Ben, one of our new Kingfisher members is pictured enjoying his introductory session with Coach Adrian Smith, during which he caught a good number of fish of several species.
Well done Ben, we wish you great success in your angling journey, and a big thank you to Mum Nicola for supplying the pictures.
Do you know somebody who would like to give angling a go?
If so why not sign up for a CRT ‘Lets fish’ taster Session

A Busy End to the Easter Holidays for our Kingfishers.
It’s been great to see so many of our Luton Kingfishers out and about enjoying themselves, some fishing with our coaches and some with their parents this weekend, and all having a great time and catching well.

Adrian Smith one of our Club coaches had to do an ‘Observed’ coaching session on Saturday to complete his L2 Lead Coach certification, so we invited two keen Kingfishers onto the bank at Town South in Leighton Buzzard  to help him with this.

Both our young volunteers were called Max, which made a confusing session! Max 1 (Joined us last year and had been out with us a couple of weeks ago, and Max 2) was a newbie who came to his fist ‘Lets Fish’ a week ago having never fished before had a great time.

Adrian started by explaining to the boys how to set up a box, put a pole together properly, attach a rig, and plumb the depth correctly, which the boys enjoyed, and then they were off fishing.

What a fantastic session we had!  We started the session using Pinkies fished over groundbait and caught well, then Max 1 asked if he could use Bread Punch, resulting in a great bite and the biggest fish he has ever caught, a fabulous Canal Bream of about 4lbs. Max 1’s Mum will enter this fish for the CRT Catch of the month competition so let’s hope he wins a prize!

Max 2 also caught well and unfortunately lost a big bream but did end up with two at a couple of pounds each, a fantastic session and both boys are enthusiastic to come again next week when we have a Club session at Three Locks. The smiles on the faces of the boys in the picture say it all.

Other Kingfishers have been out with their parents and have been sending pictures of their catches to us, Leo Levesque had a cracking Bream, and Jack out with his dad had some cracking fish, however the best of the session was Dad’s Perch, which Jack is holding.

If you would like to send us a catch report from a Luton AC Water you can send reports and pictures via our facebook page and other social media accounts, the club website or via what’s app message to 07940 229071. Don’t forget every picture we receive is automatically entered in to our monthly photo prize which is judged by the committee and you could win £25.00. It’s not always the biggest fish that wins so well worth sending in any of your catch reports.

Tight Lines Until Next Week!
