Wednesday Match Report 17th April
GUC Town North
It was back on the Canal this week, a venue that has been in splendid form during the warmer weather of the last weeks, but possibly due to the huge drop in overnight temperature, the cold winds, hail, and rain of recent days the venue produced some low weights on the day, a disappointing result for the 16 anglers who fished.
On reaching our pegs the weather was rather nice, although chilly, with a bright sky, but this wasn’t too last as we had huge black clouds and squally winds at times during the day, although fortunately not a lot of rain fell and nobody got really wet this week.
During the first hour the boat traffic was heavy, including the double-breasted Jules Fuels pair, but after this seemed to decline and the afternoon was boat free, apart from Sean Leatherland who had a Wyvern boat that was being moved into the dock shed reversing through his swim! .We also had to contend with noise of the building works from one of the houses on the other bank early on but fortunately, this also reduced in volume after the first hour.
Our winner this week with a lovely net of silvers from the end peg was Dave Abbott with 7lb 5oz.
For the second week in a row, second place was taken by Colin Holmes with 4lb 7oz with a mixture of small perch, roach, and Gudgeon. Colin fed three lines but only actually caught on two of these. Colin was using pinkie and squatt as hookbait, fished over groundbait. His starting choice of elastic proved to be too heavy, and he was bumping fish, so he changed to a lighter elastic which solved the problem and stopped this happening.
Chris Howard in third took his bag by fishing the edges of the track alternating between pinkie and large red maggot as bait to end with 2lb 15oz.
Colin Macbeth in fourth had a skimmer and a couple of small roach early on punch, he fished rotating four lines and later caught skimmers and a couple of perch on worm at the bottom of the far shelf, finishing with 1lb 15oz.
A big thank you this week to Roger and Tracy, who weighed in recorded the results and took pictures for us.
