Here is the weekly news and information round up from Luton Angling Club for the week ending 6/5/2024. Apologies for the lack of report last Sunday, with membership renewals and work commitments I did not have time to get the report out, I have now uploaded last week’s (28/4/24) report on to the news section of the website.

Our membership renewals closed on 30th April and any remaining membership went on sale at 9am on 1st May. All membership sold out by 5pm on the same day. We would like to thank all the members that have renewed their membership and we also welcome all our new members for the 2024/25 season that starts on 1st June 2024.

Please don't forget if you are a new member your membership is not valid until 1st June so you will not be able to access the venues until then as the locks are changed on the 31st May each year.

Please make sure you thoroughly read all the rules and information contained within your club book before the 1st of June. You must also attach a photo on the front of the book as the book is not valid without one. You will be asked to leave the venue if no photo is present on the book.
2024/25 Membership is now SOLD OUT!!
Grand Union Canal
Dave Nicholson tried a different section of canal this week and caught another 3 Bream, although he says the larger one on the mat looked suspiciously like a hybrid. Better weather at last, but maybe a bit too sunny. Mustn't grumble though!

Wednesday Match Group - Report
This week's Wednesday match was held at Three Locks on the Grand Union Canal. The match was originally an interclub event with Wellingborough AC but unfortunately, due to a clash of dates, the members of Wellingborough were unable to attend but we look forward to future matches with them.
Despite this, an excellent turnout of 24 anglers made it to the draw.
Pegging was undertaken on both sides of Three Locks Bridge with 8 pegs above the locks (these areas are restricted by boat moorings), and the rest were pegged below the lock.
Also, in a welcome change to recent weather, the anglers were treated to a warm and generally clear day.
In terms of the fishing, the match was a tale of the "have and have nots" with pockets of fish in some areas and anglers struggling in others. However, the anglers above Three Locks bridge fared much better with all catching.
Winner this week with Andy Frankum. Drawing end peg on the straight below Three Locks, Andy fed two lines at 11m and right across to catch 17lb 10ozs 8 drms of mainly decent sized skimmers.
Second was Syd Wilson, who drew the first peg in the section above the Three Locks bridge. His weight of 8lb 5ozs was enough to hold off Simon Foulkes by one ounce. Simon was pegged at the start of the straight below Three Locks and again alternated between 11m and right across to catch 8lb 4ozs for third place.
In fourth was Nuala Gray, who weighed 5lb 13ozs. Pegged to the side of the tree just after the boats below three locks, Nuala fish with pinkie and worm to catch one decent bream and some skimmers.
