🎣 Luton Angling Club – Weekly Roundup

Week Ending: 10th August 2025

🏞️ North House Lake

James Wing landed a superb 22lb Mirror Carp, believed to be No.10 from the 2017 stock. These stock fish continue to thrive, and are showing excellent growth and condition — a testament to our stocking programme and lake management.

🌊 South Lagoon, Wyboston

  • Paul fished on Wednesday and enjoyed a productive session, catching Bream up to 6lb.

  • Steve fished the Lagoon on Sunday and had a mixed bag of quality Bream and Roach on swim feeder with dead maggots. He also had a surprise when a personal best 16lb Zander took his bait. Though the photo isn’t perfect (Steve prioritised a swift release), the catch speaks for itself — a cracking fish and a memorable moment.

🌾 Beckerings Reservoir

  • Ray Dempsey made his first visit of the season and chose to feeder fish for Bream. His first cast produced an 8lb 3oz Bream, setting the tone for a brilliant session. Over five hours, he landed 15 more Bream, all between 6lb and 8lb 12oz. Sadly, his landing net gave out on the final fish — a dramatic end to a rewarding day.

  • John Bolger also fished the feeder and landed 16 Bream, most in the 7lb bracket, with one standout at 8lb 6oz. A great example of the consistent sport Beckerings continues to offer.

🚸 Junior Angler Spotlight – Daniel Carr

Daniel Carr, one of our talented junior anglers and a success story from our Let’s Fish sessions, visited a new stretch of canal for a focused practice session. Here’s Daniel’s own report:

“I wanted practice on the accuracy of my feeding, so I only set up one line about 7m out. I fed pinkie and used maggot on the hook. This worked as I caught well.

As the session went on, I noticed that when I topped up the swim with groundbait, skimmers and roach came onto it instantly. So every time I caught, I put a little bit of groundbait into a pole pot and started catching quicker.

Then I started changing my shots around to see if they liked it on the drop or just having it on the bottom as quick as possible. Through this, I found out they liked it on the bottom, not it dropping down on them.

Overall, it was a great day for practice as my accuracy and precision definitely got better.”

Daniel’s thoughtful approach and willingness to experiment show real maturity — a bright future ahead!

🏆 Match Report – Wednesday 6th August 2025

Venue: Dani’s Lake, Howe End A lively turnout of 10 seasoned anglers, 4 younger members, and 2 juniors gathered for this week’s midweek match. Though Dennis Hunt was away enjoying a well-earned holiday in Cornwall, Colin Holmes stepped up to manage the day’s logistics, assisted by Jim Tookey and Ray Burton (who helped with prep despite being unable to attend). A big thank you to all involved.

We were especially pleased to welcome juniors Jack O’Brien and Daniel Carr, who both impressed with their skill and composure. Also joining us was Sam Rose, taking a break from wedding preparations — best wishes to Sam from all of us!

The day was warm with a gusty breeze, and although water levels were lower than usual, fish activity was high. Everyone caught, with Carp and silver fish showing well.

There were a few hiccups — Richard Darbon forgot to thread his line through all the rod rings, then knocked over his table. His lines spent more time on the bank than in the water before lunch, but spirits remained high (😂😂😂).

Match Highlights:

  • 🥇 Jack O’Brien (Junior)117lbs 5oz from peg 14. After experimenting with pellet and feeder tactics, Jack found success in the margins using dead maggots and groundbait. A fantastic performance and a credit to his coaches and family.

  • 🥈 Colin Kidd95lbs 6oz, with plenty of Carp landed (and a few lost).

  • 🥉 Jim Tookey75lbs 11oz, despite losing four Carp when a net slipped into the water.

  • 4️⃣ Bart Bonito71lbs 4oz

  • Special mention to Daniel Carr (Junior)31lbs 2oz using Chocolate Orange boilies, beating his dad by nearly 14lbs!

🚨 Littering at Wyboston – Unacceptable Behaviour

We regret to report another incident of littering at Wyboston, clearly left by anglers who evaded our bailiffs. This behaviour is disrespectful, damaging, and completely unacceptable. It tarnishes the reputation of our club and the wider angling community.

📸 If you witness littering:

  • Take a photo

  • Note vehicle registration

  • Report it to us directly

We treat these reports seriously and will take appropriate action. Let’s protect the waters we all enjoy — together.
