Luton Angling Club - Weekly News, Information and Catch Report Roundup - Week Ending 25th January 2026

Another typical January week this week, with very few catch reports coming in.

Beckerings Reservoir
Amer Jawad fished the reservoir on Saturday and said there were only a few brave souls there, His visit was well worth it though as in a short 3 hour session he had a number of Bream to 7lb.

Thats all we have in terms of catch reports this week, but we have some other information and content that you may be interested in.

Barry Stevenson a long time club member and stalwart Work party volunteer was going through some of his old stuff and found some pictures of himself in 1997 on a successful session at Lavendon Mill Upstream where he caught Carp and Tench.

Seeing Barry's pictures prompted Wyboston Bailiff Brian Turner to dig out an even older photo from North House which was taken in 1990 and shows Brian with a Bream that he caugh from the peg known as "no carp corner". We hope, provided that we receive some pictures from our members, to make this a regular weekly feature called "In the net history" so please do send in some of your pictures - The older the better..... We already have one lined up for next week. You can send the pictures via the catch reports section on the club website or via message through our social media pages.

Coaching Classroom Session - 24th January 2026
Our Coaching team held another well attended Junior coaching session at the Bushmead community Hub on Saturday afternoon and it was an enjoyable day for everyone who attended.
During this session we were able to distribute some donated tackle items to those who needed them. Thank you to all those who have kindly donated items for our juniors to make use of.
Some of our young anglers brought along the rig making boards they had made over the Christmas holidays for us to see.
We played a game throwing bean bags (simulating balls of groundbait) which were thrown left handed from a sitting position, the aim being to accurately hit a target as you would when fishing.
The Kingfishers also had a session on different types of hooks, and we demonstrated hair rigs and hair rigging of baits.
Following this there we focused on how to set up a waggler rod correctly. The CRT award progress books were signed off for those who remembered to bring them, so the young anglers can obtain their progress certificates.
Next Saturday (31st January 2026) we host a CRT Coaching Conference from 9am until 4:30pm a Buffet lunch is included. This conference is aimed at existing and potential new coaches and volunteers and we will cover what is needed and what is involved to obtain the necessary coaching qualifications.
There is a small charge for tickets of £6.00 (to cover venue hire etc) We do still have some spaces available. Visit Eventbrite using the link below to book a place.
One of the greatest rewards is taking someone who’s never fished before and watching them grow into confident, capable anglers. Seeing that first spark of excitement when they catch a fish, the smiles that follow, and the pride they carry as they represent the Club at the CRT Celebration events in Shropshire… it’s something special.
