Membership Update

Our priority renewal period for existing members closed on 30th April, with all remaining memberships released to new members on 1st May.

As in recent years, these sold out within just a few hours. We limit membership numbers to prevent overcrowding at our venues, ensuring everyone can enjoy their fishing.

Our Membership Secretary has been hard at work preparing all the membership books, which will be posted on Tuesday. Renewing and new members should start to receive them over the next week or so.

Please remember:

  • New members — your membership starts on 1st June, and your key will not work until then.

  • Existing members — continue using your current book and key until 1st June.

We warmly welcome all our new members for this season. Please take time to read your membership book carefully so you’re familiar with our venues and rules, and don’t forget to attach a photo before visiting.

If you did miss out there's always next year - be sure to register your interest via the form on the club website.

Luton AC Match Scene
Luton AC 2026 Sunday Series - Round One
The first round of the 2026 Sunday Series was staged on Sunday 26th April 2026 at Three Locks.
14 anglers arrived in the car park and Bart Bonito and Dave Whillock set off to undertake the usual thankless task of pegging out. They did a great job ensuring the 14 could fit along the Chelmscote pound (above the bridge at Three Locks). The weather was continuing the sunny spell that we had all been enjoying.
The match turned out to be a battle between the two end pegs.
On end peg 15 towards Chelmscote bridge was Adrian Smith. Adrian was pegged opposite the concrete outfall and decided to fish two lines - one at 11m and the other towards the bush at 13m. Adrian started fishing breadpunch on the 11m line and caught steady for the first 90 minutes before the bites dried off. A move to the 13m line produced one bite and a lost fish before he returned to the 11m line and picked up odd fish. A switch back to the 13m line in the last 40 minutes produced another run of fish and he weighed in 3lb 6ozs for the win.
Sean Leatherland came 2nd, maintaining his current good run of form. Sean was pegged on peg 1 and again caught early in the match. His 3lb 4drms was mostly made up of small skimmers caught at 11m on pinkie over punch crumb and groundbait.
Tim Watts was on peg 2 next to Sean and employed similar tactics to Sean and caught small skimmers and perch on Pinkie over groundbait for 2lb 7ozs 4 drms.
The 2026 Sunday Series will continue on 24 May 2026 on the GUC at Braggenham Side. Draw 8:30am and fish 10am to 3pm.
This is a friendly league and anyone interested in joining, please let the organiser know. The matches are open to eligible club members and if you are joining us for the first time can we ask that you message us so we know you are coming before turning up. You will be asked to produce your Club book at first appearance, so please have it with you.

Luton Angling Club — Midweek Match Report
Grand Union Canal, The Globe 29th April 2026
A turnout of 22 anglers fished this week’s match on the GUC at The Globe. With the number of competitors and several moored boats to work around, we pegged 11 anglers either side of the pub.
Conditions were bright but dominated by a very stiff, gusty breeze. The canal carried good colour and held at around 12°C, but heavy surface scum and pre‑spawning fish made bites hard to come by. Many strong anglers struggled to put together any sort of rhythm.
The section towards Leighton Lock suffered the worst of the wind, with waves and scum making pole control beyond 5–6 metres almost impossible. Presentation was a real challenge all day.
Those pegged towards Three Locks fared slightly better, though even here the wind made things awkward.
Behind some pegs on the Leighton side, the large willows were creaking ominously. At one point an 8‑ft branch (4–6 inches thick) snapped and fell into the canal. This has been reported to CRT for safety review.

Section Highlights
Leighton Lock Side
1st – Bart Bonito, end peg
Bart attempted 12 metres early but the wind made it unworkable. Switching to 5–6 metres in the track, he fished large red maggot over groundbait, finishing with 7lb 10oz of bream and skimmers.
2nd – Roger Baker, returning after a spell in hospital only weighed in 0lb 12oz but thoroughly enjoyed being back on the bank with us.
Three Locks Side
1st – Dave Whillock
Dave topped the section with 7lb 4oz.
2nd – Sean Leatherland
Sean weighed 6lb 12oz, catching skimmers and a bonus bream at 11 metres over groundbait using pinkies and red maggot.
3rd – Pete Smith
Pete recorded 4lb 8oz.

Coaching Update - Kingfishers coaching session at Slapton
On Saturday afternoon we held a very well attended coaching session for our young Kingfisher anglers on the Canal at Slapton.
We managed to unite Molly and Joris with the respective trophies that were won last year as they were unable to collect them at the AGM, but they were both camera shy and didn't want their picture taken!
It was great to see our enthusiastic Juniors out on the bank again with their tackle, and we were able to help some with some additional items from those donated recently. For many, it was the first time on the bank this year.
Unfortunately, the fishing proved extremely challenging, but our Juniors were not deterred and all stuck at it, and in the end nearly all caught at least one fish.
Well done to everyone who attended, and it was great to have the help of Cody. Cody started his angling career with us some years ago and is now a very competent angler and came along to assist us and is registered as a young volunteer with CRT. Hopefully he may take his coaching qualification soon.
We are always keen to hear about those willing to get involved in teaching our young anglers and gaining their coaching qualifications, and bursaries are available to pay the costs of gaining these for suitable applicants.
